Lindsay Butler, M.S, SLP-CCC, TSSLD

Lindsay Butler, M.S, SLP-CCC, TSSLD
Speech-Language Pathologist
lindsayb@citysoundsny.com

Lindsay Butler is New York Stated licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and a certified Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD). She has a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) through the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA). She received her BA in Speech-Language Pathology from Loyola University Maryland, and MS in Speech-Language Pathology from Boston University. Over the past 10 years, Lindsay has worked in preschools, daycares, charter schools, elementary and middle schools, and homes throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. She has also supervised graduate school clinicians. Many of her clients have underlying motor, cognitive, or social challenges that affect their communication skill, such as cerebral palsy, apraxia, autism, or developmental delays. Other clients benefit from support completing their homework, reading and writing, studying and test tasking, processing language, and navigating social situations. Regardless of the underlying speech and language delay or disorder, Lindsay believes early communicators reach their fullest potential when given opportunities to engage in meaningful interactions throughout the day. She loves coaching parents or caregivers on ways to increase speech and language during routine activities, joint book reading, and pretend play. When children with speech and language challenges reach school age, her primary goal is to help these students apply strategies throughout the school day, whether than means improving social conversation skills to build meaningful peer relationships, attending to teacher directions, remaining on task so assignments are complete, writing well-organized essays with appropriate details and grammar, decoding less familiar words, or solving a word problem. Lindsay is trained in the Hanen Program, which helps teachers and parents develop their communication and play skills with young children. She is also initial level PROMPT trained, as well as trained in Talk Tools. These techniques promote strength and movement of muscles needed for efficient speech production and feeding.

Expertise:
Pediatric; pretend play, early language development/late talkers, apraxia, AAC (Tobii and TouchChat), articulation/phonology, fluency, feeding, reading and writing skills, study skills, attention skills, social communication, ASD, parent coaching
